Protecting Your Energy: Understanding the Impact of Others

This week after a negative interaction which involved people in my close friends group ,I was reminded of something so I wanted to share :
In our daily lives, we often encounter various energies from the people around us. These energies can significantly influence our mood especially when family is involved, more so than if its just a random stranger, your productivity, and overall well-being can suffer. Understanding how to navigate these interactions is crucial for maintaining a positive and balanced energy in our lives. In this blog, we’ll explore the positive and negative effects people’s energy can have on us and provide tips on how to protect our own energy.

The Power of Positive Energy

Positive energy is so wonderful!

When we surround ourselves with individuals who radiate positivity, it can uplift our spirits and inspire us. Here are some characteristics of people with positive energy:

  1. Optimism: They maintain a hopeful outlook and find the silver lining in challenging situations.
  2. Supportiveness: They encourage and motivate us, making us feel valued and understood.
  3. Joyfulness: Their laughter and enthusiasm can lighten any room, making social interactions enjoyable.

Benefits of Positive Energy:

  • Enhanced Mood: Being around positive individuals can elevate our mood and increase feelings of happiness.
  • Increased Motivation: Their energy can fuel our drive to achieve our goals and pursue our passions.

The Weight of Negative Energy
Conversely, negative energy can drain us big time!!! and lead to feelings of anxiety and frustration.

Here are some traits commonly found in individuals with negative energy:

  • Pessimism: They often focus on the worst outcomes and may bring others down with their outlook.
  • Criticism: They may frequently criticise or belittle others, leading to feelings of inadequacy.

How to Protect Your Energy

Being aware of the energies we encounter is the first step in protecting our own. Here are some strategies to help you manage your energy effectively:

  1. Set Boundaries: Learn to say no when necessary. Protecting your time and energy is essential to maintaining balance.
  2. Limit Exposure: If certain individuals consistently drain your energy, consider reducing your time spent with them. Surround yourself with those who uplift you.
  3. Practice Mindfulness: Engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation or deep breathing to centre yourself and recharge your energy.
  4. Cultivate Positive Relationships: Focus on building relationships with individuals who share your values and uplift your spirit. Seek out communities that foster positivity and support.
  5. Self-Care: Prioritise self-care activities that rejuvenate your body and mind, such as exercise, hobbies, or spending time in nature.
  6. Reflect: Regularly assess your relationships and the energy they bring into your life. This reflection can help you make informed decisions about who to keep close.

I have a technique which I like to use its Called the FISH TANK Technique.

When I have been exposed to family and friends or co-workers etc that have ‘AFFECTED’ my energy with their bad energy. I imagine ALL the people I know like this…I image them like fish in a huge circular aquarium tank , swimming in circles around and around they go…between us is the super thick glass. I can visit these FISH when ever I like , and when I am finished or had enough… I can just walk away! and they will most likely always be swimming in circles in the FISH TANK , but I visualise myself having complete freedom to leave the Aquarium.. letting them carry on with whatever they chose and like wise I will carry on doing whatever suits me…THIS IS HOW I PROTECT MY ENERGY!

Remember, protecting your energy is not selfish; it’s necessary for your happiness and growth and not every one we meet has an energetic match to our energy.
